Oh, those days. Evans and Smith were cousins. Rumor was they got so fast running down rabbits in the Valley. Went down there once for a meet when they announced the sprinters were going for a record. Don't think it was against Cal; don't even remember if I had graduated already. Dual meet, no security...we just walked down onto the infield. I think we ended up just at the top of the curve. You could feel the ground pounding as they ran by. Don't recall anybody got a WR, which probably means no. Don't remember those details quite as well; I wasn't a doper yet, and it's a lot harder to rewind the memory tapes for that long gone era. Know what I mean, Vern? Did see a few, tho, here and there. Never 100 Y/M like Insane Bolt ran, tho. I'm still in awe.
