Power Computing president quits in Apple licensing spat

CUPERTINO, Calif. (DBC) -- Computer industry veteran Joel Kocher quit as president of Power Computing, saying he had "irreconcilable differences" in the way the Macintosh clone-maker was dealing with Apple Computer. The resignation came amid speculation Apple might buy privately held Power Computing, which has been planning to make a public offering of its own.
Kocher, who joined Power Computing from Dell Computer last December, had publicly criticized Apple and its co-founder Steve Jobs for delays in granting Power Computing a new license to make computers based on the latest Macintosh technology. At the Macworld trade show two weeks ago, for example, Kocher led an effort to hold up protest signs during Jobs' keynote address...
