Stockhawk,
<< Forbes article by Andrew Seybold, "Buy Wireless When Tech Rebounds" recommended 3 companies: QCOM, PALM and GEMP (GemPlus). His rational for GEMP was that their cards are being used in all GSM devices and that "CDMA systems also plan to use the cards". Does that sound right to you? >>
Yes, sort of.
SIM cards are being used in all GSM devices and will be used in most 3G CDMA devices in the future. Some US carriers could be an exception.
Not all Gemplus though. Gemplus has about 42% market share in SIM cards with Schlumberger, Oberthur, Orga, Setec, InCard, and others the balance.
As I pointed out prior:
Problem I saw, though, other than heavily cyclical earnings (30% to 35% of annual) every 4th quarter was that only a small % of the shares available was floated, which means big hunks of privately held shares can hit the market at any time.
Probably a good buy for long haul, but it is early, and they are a Prince, not a King.
Gemplus thread here has reasonably comprehensive info about the company, the IPO, et al in <100 posts:
