Daniel, could you elucidate a bit on why Sun is leader of Internet?

From hardware side, Sun provide servers for 'net but they are not the sole player, they are up against HP, IBM, Dec etc in unix alone. On the software side, they hardly a Internet player unless Java brings in some revenue (NC? That's just a joke to me).

I had positions in sunw and willing to go back if it drops under 25. I believe this recent drop is nothing like disaster of any kind. I recently made a trip to China and visited several research inst there, saw quite a number of Sparc and Ultrasparc around. Several years ago, there's not many Sun laying around, but some Dec machines. Now I see things changing.

NT is eroding the unix market share, but since 'net growing so fast, you don't really see unix market growth diminish, yet. Microsoft has disappointed quite a number of people in NT4 since it has nothing but a pretty face and even less stable (so far they got 2 service pack out already and the most recent one causes most crash I've ever encoutered in my 3 year NT experience). Next major release with directory service and better networking will not be out by at least 98 and this will give Sun and other unix players a big break.

But, MMX could be an unknown factor, big one. A smart move might be buy into both Sun and Intel.

Just my 2c before this wonderful year is over.

Happy New Year!

Will
