As you might imagine, I am a calendar purist. I would wish to strictly qualify celebrating a Millennium this year by saying that we have hit this nice, round number. My soundbite is "Odometer Party".
I do think that our media personalities are doing the public a grave disservice by not pointing out (as often as necessary) that the millennium extends to the end of the nominal year 2000.
I'm for partying twice - this time for the Odometer, next time for the actual, proper, true Millennium.

But I sure would like to see this round of partying more appropriately labeled. Most Americans actually believe that January 1, 2000 is the start of the next millennium. And that sort of ... innumeracy ... grieves me mightily.
