DVD Sales Steaming This Summer - 8/2/99
Hot off the press from CEMA, the DVD statistics for the week ending July 23, 1999, are in once again confirming DVD growing popularity. The number of DVD player sold were 62,280, an 114.5 percent increase since 1998. Projection televisions sold only 18,091, decreasing (19.8) percent since 1998.
Month-to-date sales of DVD players is also on the rise with 135,556 players sold, an 203.6 percent increase and only 43,195 projection televisions were sold, decreasing by (14.9) percent from 1998. Year-to-date, DVD player sales are phenomenal and projection television sales don't appear so bleak. In sum, 1,422,036 DVD players have been sold, a 343 percent increase and 513,903 projection televisions have sold, a 12.2 percent increase when compared with 1998 statistics.
