Where the hell did you get the idea there was any gold in California? That is just an old wive's tale. Those tales of prospectors in 1849 were just a scam. It all came from China. Didn't you get a bit suspicious about all this Chinese coming into the gold fields from Kowloon? They were smugglers. Think about it. They worked at damned near every sluice box. Camp cooks, field hands. Clean up men. Yep. If you don't believe me just go to the American river today and try to find any in a pan. I dare you. It's up around Sacramento. Now when was the last time you ever heard of anyone finding any gold near Sacramento in recent times? See? You know those conical wooden Chinese hats those labourers wore? Gold pans. Now that should make you think. That also should explain why they could never find the source in the Sierra Madres. There isn't any source, as there is no gold.

Ask Humphrey Bogart.
