Netscape and Symantec Sign Strategic Agreement to Integrate and Distribute Flagship Products
Netscape Selects Symantec Visual Cafe as Preferred Visual Java(TM) Development Tool and Symantec Selects Netscape One(TM) as Preferred Internet/Intranet Development Platform

INTERNET WORLD, NEW YORK, Dec. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Symantec Corp and Netscape Communications Corp today announced two strategic greements that will allow each of the companies to bundle, market and distribute certain of each others' products. This alliance brings together Symantec's market-leading Java development tools products with the Netscape ONE(TM) Open Network Environment, creating a seamless solution for Intranet/Internet developers. In the first agreement, Netscape will market the new Symantec Visual Cafe Pro for Windows and Macintosh, including the dbANYWHERE Workgroup Server, through its direct corporate sales force, Value Added Resellers and traditional distribution channels worldwide. Additionally, this agreement establishes Symantec Visual Cafe as Netscape's preferred visual Java development tool for the Netscape ONE(TM) platform. Netscape will also promote the Symantec Java toolset on the Netscape Web site, in monthly newsletters, and in its Netscape DevEdge(TM) on-line developer forum. In the second agreement, Symantec will bundle Netscape Navigator(TM) Internet client software with Symantec Cafe, Visual Cafe and Visual Page and will bundle Netscape FastTrack Server(TM) software with Visual Cafe Pro and Visual Cafe Enterprise. Additionally, this agreement establishes the Netscape ONE platform as Symantec's preferred Internet/Intranet development platform for its Java toolset, and reinforces a strong commitment to provide a tight integration of the Visual Cafe product family on both Windows and Macintosh platforms with Netscape ONE. Future versions of Visual Cafe will include the hosting of the Netscape Internet Foundation Classes (IFC) components in the Visual Cafe environment, component library and tool palette, support for IFC event handling through the Visual Cafe Interaction Wizard, building of IIOP capable applications, as well as integrated Java debugging in the Netscape browser directly from the Visual Cafe environment. Symantec will also support Netscape's extensions to HTML 3.0 in its Visual Page product family.
