I read scifi as a diversion. My two favs are the two greats, Herbert and Heinlein.

If you have read the dozen or so books in the Dune series you will find that DI does not cease to live, even though he did die in the first book.

DI lives through thousands of deaths and then new iterations, each Duncan ghola becoming stronger, smarter. He does not undergo the apotheosis of Paul Atreides, but outlives Paul and gives Paul what he ultimately desires, death.

Basically then, I liked the metaphor of resilience, loyalty, fidelity and trust that DI embodies throughout the series.

(Btw, I also like Love from Stranger in a Stranger Land - a Libertarian ideal/fantasy).
