While I agree with you that this is a good opportunity, I've just gotta pick a bone with you. How do you characterize "visibility and clout?" If it means pitting defector Rick Wittington against Elliott Rogers (the former COWEN All-Star, now DMG Dream-Teamer), then I might agree with you. After all, I can't recall seeing Elliot's avuncular mug plastered all over the pages of Barrons. Plus, you've got to give them a little credit for their "special" relationship with GART.
But let's talk meat and potatoes. Have you ever seen an Autex ranking of trading volume for tech & telecom stocks? You have to practically go to the triple digits to find Soundview. Soundview will by year end have completed several multiples more financings than last year. That's impressive, but in the most aggressive scenario they will raise a fifth of the money that COWEN will this year. Really, Tango, who's syndicate calendar would you rather access?
Soundview made its name with Ol' Rick, who is at present in far more lush straits putting a big ol' pool of money where his mouth is. Slocum? Who's he? To the best of my knowledge, he's only been covering the DSL market for eight weeks. I prefer to let them spend a bit more time in the oven.
