Jaime; I disagree, the OS can be learned by rote be it Apple or Microsoft. The creative part, be it words by the author or drawings by an artist or schematics by an engineer are above the OS and can(should) be doable on all. In fact they are, and the only casualty is some down time as you learn the new mouse runways to do the stuff with Win95 instead of Apple. A few rare things cannot be done, but they can be done other ways. Not so with clones. If the Apple numbers do not grow neither will Apple. Wintels are running ahead at a growth rate of 20-40%(depending on who you believe) per year, and Apple must match that just to keep up, let alone grow share in the market. Currently it is losing in absolute sales, and thus shrinking rapidly. Clones can reverse this and feed money back to Apple. If the cloners will not pay $200 per $6000 system, let them FO, sign up someone else. But do it fast, there should be a way that I can make Apple clones in one day by buying parts. I can make a Wintel in one day, why not an Apple??? Sell the OS and motherboards etc as someone else suggested as well to all who walk in the door. Those thousands who work on Apples at work balk at buying another Apple for $6000, or a clone for $4800, but they might like to buy a mother boards for $800 and then get a case for $40 with a power supply(oh yes make the mother boards use Wintel cases and power supplies just to steal at least one thing back.) and get a good Apple for $2300 or so. This will undercut the tiers market, but so what??, survive or die is Apples choice now. Bill |
