Ftth, and all - Just a last link, which offers some insight into the IEEE thinking in the whole question of broadband wireless.

I offer it because it may serve to focus the discussion somewhat; I think that the deliberations of the IEEE should not be considered alone: we should also pay attention to ETSI BRAN. There is a movement afoot to harmonize some aspects of their decisions, to effect global standards.

As a last point, I should mention that there is an important distinction between IEEE 802.11a, and IEEE 802.11b: .11a operates at 5 GHz, while .11b operates at 2.4 GHz.
