Wasn't it Maynard G. Krebs? Who would show up when Dobie's father was saying, "The most asinine...." or whatever and Maynard would bounce through the door saying, "You rang?"

Marriage can be a lovely way to live with one's lover, a sort of statement in public that you value each other beyond all measure and intend to live out all of life together, having learned enough over time to feel that the statement in both appropriate and accurate.

My marriage ended after ten years in 1986. Yet I might be willing to make the statement again in private and public if I believed it.
