Invading Iraq was obviously a mistake .....

.......... I don't believe a single person in this country believes the invasion was a good idea, except possibly for partisan, political reasons.

Both parties are now using semantics: ""woulda," "coulda," and "shoulda."

I will accept that Saddam Hussein was some sort of threat. But everyone realizes now that he was mostly terrorizing his own people. That was terrible. But we don't have the capacity to solve all the world's problems. Was he really a serious threat to other countries? Maybe neighbors. Again, that should not be our terrain.

Saddam was definitely paying families of Palestinian suicide bombers. But a $200 billion invasion to avenge wrongs against Israel? That's crazy.

No, both parties now are dancing around admitting the stupidity of it all and trying to convince the electorate that it is the more macho party to get us out of this mess. Macho is now being defined by what Kerry and Bush did around 30 years ago. This is mindless.
