“To strengthen your faith, have communion with Christ.” C. H. Spurgeon
Turn Doubt Into Blessed Assurance
1 John 5:10-13

Somehow, doubt has a way of creeping into even the most devout believer’s life. And it seems that people experience seasons of doubt for many different reasons. First, sin can subtly build a wall between our hearts and God’s love. When we fail to confess our transgressions to the Lord, they can begin to “pile up” and weigh down our spiritual lives. If we enter this sort of spiritual darkness, we may begin to feel the loss of fellowship with God and therefore believe our saving relationship with Him is lost.

Second, we may doubt our salvation because we have been exposed to false teaching. It is easy to allow an outwardly respectable teacher to sway our belief. Therefore, whenever we hear any teaching about God, we must be absolutely sure that the message is firmly rooted in the unchanging Word of God.

Third, we often become too attached to emotionalism, or the “feelings” we think should accompany salvation. Our feelings are poor indicators of our relationship with God. Feelings come and go, ebb and flow; God does not. Neither does His love for us.

If you have confessed your sin to God and received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, then your salvation is secure. Of course, your life will not be perfect, and you will still experience trials and occasional doubts. However, once you are saved, you never have to worry about losing God’s most precious gift: your salvation through the blood of His only Son Jesus.
