I saw Bill Maher's show when he started discussing vaccines and the follow up show where he tried to explain himself. He did not make a distinction between the new H1N1 vaccine and vaccines that fight major diseases when he criticized vaccinations. He was attacking the idea that vaccines are safe and effective, so I don't think it is fair for you to try to make it as though Bill is in favor of some traditional vaccines that fight major diseases but against the new H1N1 vaccine. He was not making that arguement.

All I can say is that I'm glad children aren't dying of once major diseases like smallpox, typhoid, and, polio. We are all better for it from the children to their families to society as a whole, since we don't have to carry the burden of treating these diseases. We can thank vaccines for this positive development. If Bill wants to bury his head in the sand and think irrationally like one of the religious zealots that he loves to critcize, that's his business, but he has lost some of my respect for not fully informing himself on the matter of vaccinations. Bill should stick to being a comedian and leave science to the scientists.
