There a lot of resources that are far better used if in private hands than in free for all property. RF spectrum is a case in point.

I don't buy those grandiose ideals. I can recall reading -and it wasn't long time ago- that satellites would bring democracy and would topple tyrannical regimes, bring education to all. You know the usual.

What I suspect is that in the name of protecting the little guy, democratic ideals, and openness, governments' bureaucrats will be -in fact- seeking self-preservation. And their track record on that is very good. They have like 500 years perfecting that. They know what work. And they know what don't work.
