Elmer,

As you are aware of, Cyrix doesn't have rights to Intel compatible multiprocessing scheme. (unless they acquired that right through NSM merger). If that's one of the advantages of Slot 1, it is a moot point for Cyrix.

Is Cyrix ready to make this kind of a major architectural change?
Do they want to contiune to support socket 7 as well? Do they have the resources to support 2 seperate design efforts?

Cyrix is already supporting 2 separate designs - Socket 7 and MediaGX, and are about to support a third on - MXi, which, by the way is higher performance than Slot 1. So the motivation to go with a 4th one (Slot 1) is probably low.

It depends on whether Cyrix wants to continue to participate in what once was an open system market, or if Cyrix retreats (as Intel did) to proprietory schemes. Eventually, I think one sure loser will be the consumer. We have benefited greatly from the original IBM PC design. Now Intel is about to take it away.

Joe
