TA ET AL. : the brcm earnings and announcement ( i too think a split is *overdue*) should be quite interesting. we have had people comment here that the "head and shoulders" pattern indicates bullish future (ibexx) and bearish(TA). IMHO, i dont think TA works simply because if it did we would not have any conflicting opinions. it should always yield the same result, right? the fact remains, TA is at best hindsight analysis. nice for the lab and analysts only.

personally, i take a purely fundamental view. the fundamental i look at is increasing sales, increasing markets, unfair advantage in their own industry and shrewd acquisitions that increase the former three factors. brcm is not creating new technologies for the sake of science but for the sake of their pocketbooks. that is my kinda of company. this is another reason i believe TA does not work for most companies and especially brcm: TA does not incorporate the intrinsic value going on behind closed doors at a company nor the technical innovations these companies are creating. TA can't work because it simply has no room for rapid change. at best, it predicts the past will be some indication of the future; clearly brcm does not fit into that paradigm.

i suppose it really isnt important to me if brcm hits 230 then 180 or 180 then 250 because i have held this baby since '98. there is *nothing* like tax free appreciation of assets. of course, the cigar would be a prize...
