>And Mike Chen, who said Rhapsody is "on hold" - what are you reading to get this idea??? Golden Master of DR1 is only weeks away!<

I must confess that this statement comes from recent Apple news coverage which said that MacOS 8 "has legs" and noted that there were 120 software engineers working on the MacOS, and seemed to suggest that Rhapsody would be delayed. Also the lack of mention by Jobs in his Boston speech would indicate this.

Let me say that Apple is generating zero mind-share in the Gates Building at Stanford. I don't know of any one who would choose to work at Apple rather than lots of other places. In my experience over the past couple of years the Mac platform has become unstable and unreliable. Perhaps OS 8 corrects that, and perhaps quality control over the past 4 months has improved. The current charade appears to involve the neo-Nero Jobs bickering over who is allowed to paste on an Apple sticker, and zilch about new computing paradigms. While this screwing around is going on, the Mac fades further into the rear view mirror. It's sad.
