CodeStream Hires Industry Leaders for Its Fiber Optics
Development Team RICHARDSON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 20, 2000--CodeStream Holdings Inc.
(OTCBB: COHO - news) has hired two key technology players in its quest to develop and introduce a new fiber optic transport system to the burgeoning metropolitan networks market.
Joseph (Joe) Dixon has joined CodeStream as vice president of engineering. Dixon brings 30 years of engineering and
manufacturing experience in the microelectronics and optical components business, which includes 29 years with Lucent. His most recent assignment with Lucent was as general manager of the optical module and fiber amplifier products division of the optoelectronics business unit. Revenues for this unit tripled over the last three years to over a $1 billion.
Also joining CodeStream is Dr. Gregory A. (Greg) Magel as director of advanced technology. Magel's experience since
earning his Ph.D. from Stanford has focused on photonics and MEMS technologies. His career includes nine years with
Texas Instruments performing R&D in photonics, optical MEMS, and high-speed integrated circuits, plus almost two years at Corning Inc. working in photonic component R&D. Magel is also very active in professional societies such as the Optical Society of America and the IEEE, and is currently serving as chairman of the photonics division of the OSA Technical Council.
CodeStream is a development stage company in the process of creating a line of fiber optic transport products based on
their patented Optical Code Division Multiple Access (OCDMA) technology. The company has an OCDMA-based, multi-channel system operating in their labs now and their products will address the metropolitan network bandwidth bottleneck.
Industry analysts such as Ryan Hankin and Kent (RHK) forecast the North American market for this type of equipment at $10 billion in 2000 with growth to $18 billion in 2002. CodeStream, based in Richardson, recently closed a $7.5 million funding round.

While the companies previous history seems to be a bit murky, I am intrigued by the calibre of the staff the company is bringing on. Would you happen to know anything about the OCDMA patents that are referenced in the press release?
