The Ever-Growing Las Vegas Mon Apr 19, 1999 Las Vegas is ever-expanding. October '98 saw the opening of the extravagant Bellagio hotel/casino complex. Now the Venetian joins the growing number of theme resorts to spring up in the desert oasis. The Venice-style resort is set to make its debut on the Strip in late April with life-size replicas of Italian icons and a 586,000-gallon (2.2 million-liter) lagoon where visitors can enjoy gondola rides. The Venetian will be placed on the site of the legendary Sands Hotel, where the famous ''Rat Pack'' once cavorted.
