Robert Gould Shaw also has an area of Washington City named after him--usually referred to as Shaw or the Shaw District.

I didn't know that.

A true hero in every sense of the word.

I love the scene in Glory where he is gazing out to sea before the attack on Battery Wagner, perhaps thinking of boyhood vacations on Sullivan Island just across the inlet, as Horner's poignant theme plays in the background.

Knowing that he had so much to lose and his men had so little, that scene just tears me up.
