March 11, 1999 Additional Trench Results from Las Catalinas Symbol: MAD.V Form 20F: 0–27760
During February, Miranda continued the trenching program on the Las Catalinas project in Sonora State, Mexico. Bedrock was encountered in most of the trenches. The trenches were located in the Lucy, Barda, Catalinas, Chaos, and Amethyst zones. The program was successful in furthering the geologic understanding and defining some of the controls of mineralization. The following is a table of significant results.
Amt MT # 5 2.5m 3.31-Au g/t 1.7-Ag g/t, 8 feet 0.097-Au oz/t 0.05-Ag oz/t
Amy MT #6 10.3m 0.72-Au g/t 12.86-Ag g/t, 34 feet 0.021-Au oz/t 0.037-Ag oz/t
Chaos MT #6 16.2m 0.6-Au g/t 1.16-Ag g/t, 53 feet 0.017-Au oz/t 0.03-Ag oz/t
Barda MT #3 1.3m 5.22-Au g/t 178.0-Ag g/t, 4 feet 0.152-Au oz/t 5.19-Ag oz/t
Most importantly, additional mineralization has been found at the Chaos zone and good grades and substantial widths of mineralization were discovered at the Amy zone. Within both zones the trenching intercepted encouraging grades and thicknesses of gold mineralization and Miranda is now able to recognize strikes.
Chaos is striking north and has been defined by two trenches 100 metres apart; Chaos MT#6, listed above, and Chaos Hand Trench #1 with 18 metres of 1.10 grams gold/tonne and 13 grams silver/tonne (internally this zone has 7.5 metres of 2.33 grams gold/tonne and 15 grams silver/tonne). These trenches are located within a soil anomaly of 80 metres wide and 500 metres long averaging 0.50 grams gold/tonne. Grades as high as 9.5 grams gold/tonne and mineralized widths of up to 19 metres have been found. The results strongly suggest that the Chaos and Amy zones are connected along a structural trend that follows the geochemical anomaly. East-trending mineralization with widths of over 10 metres and grades over 3.3 grams gold/tonne verify this two kilometre east-striking zone.
The results have also confirmed the mineralization at Barda. The area contains at least a single vein if not several en echelon veins. The strike length could extend as far as the Catalinas area, a distance of over two kilometres. The grades of the 1 to 3 metre vein can get as high as 36 grams gold/tonne. In some areas widths of 16 metres have been mapped and sampled, although of lower grade.
The mineralized zones at Lucy had been previously mined out and backfilled or caved in and so trenching this zone was not successful.
In summary, the exploration work has defined two styles of precious metals mineralization in the central part of the claim group. The northern area (Barda, Jed, Lucy zones) is comprised of relatively narrow veins within the granodiorite over a strike distance of more than two kilometres. The impressive continuity and strength of the system gives indications that a resource will be defined along this structure.
The southern area (Chaos, Amy, Catalinas zones) has indications of a more shallow style of mineralization manifested as broader and more disseminated. Mineralization over a two-plus kilometre structural zone is characterized by stockwork quartz veining and the common association of late-stage black to dark-brown carbonate veining and amethystine quartz. This, coupled with a coincident two kilometres long soil anomaly, magnetic low, mapped structure and alteration, further supports Miranda's belief that a significant large tonnage precious metal deposit can also be found in this area.
