I presume the only way to do it would be to have a DVD disk in each prepackaged software that includes a precompiled version for each target platform. That is doable, and cheap. On the other hand, for this to occur, there is a chicken and egg dilemma - what incentive do software firms have to do this if there are no large number of non x86 target platforms, and why would a user want to switch to a low volume more $$$ machine when the software is not available. It is just too easy to stick with Intel while their products maintain a decent price performance wrt other uProcessors.
