Only the NYT would get this so wrong. Not just wrong but insulting!
This is deliberate…no question whatsoever in my mind about that.

The rows of ribbons (medals) worn on that uniform are completely out of order and both the rows and medals are aligned wrong.

Several examples: The ribbon on the lower left is the Soldiers Medal. It is awarded for heroism and is equivalent to the Silver Star. It should be on the left of the top row.

The flight wings should be on the right side and above the ribbons and I question what they are. They are not US Army flight wings and corporals are not pilots.

And the ribbon on the far right, 2nd row from the bottom (the 10 year reserve service award) is popping off its retaining bar.

Also the chevrons (Corporal stripes) are never worn on the collar of the Class A uniform.
Also though the white shirt is acceptable in some situations, it is not GI issue.

Putting such a display on a black man seems racist.
Putting such a display on the old (but still in use) or any US Army uniform is disrespectful to the US Army, disrespectful to the soldier, and disrespectful to the US Armed Forces.
Pathetic.
