NEW YORK, April 5 (Reuters) - J.P. Morgan said analyst Gregory Smith cut his outlook on 2001 earnings per share from U.S. online broker Knight Trading Group Inc. (NasdaqNM:NITE - news) on Thursday.
In a report, he trimmed his estimate to 85 cents from $1.28. Smith said the move reflected ``Knight's earnings potential given severe equity market uncertainty.''

He added, ``We believe NITE shares present a compelling entry point for longer-term investors.''

Knight forecast lower-than-expected first-quarter profits on Wednesday. It blamed market conditions and the effect of falling stock markets.
