Of course I would feel no offense. Of course their reaction is not rational, it is emotional.

Of course it's emotional, they are human beings. Human beings care what other people think of them. If anybody ever accuses you of some crime you haven't committed, even implicitly, either you will feel offense or you will prove yourself abnormally thick-skinned and careless of the opinions of others.

If you read Kerry's comments he was defending the fighting men.

By accusing them of routinely committing war crimes. Some defense.
