Sometimes clients of the firm get, and should get the information before the brokerage firm releases it to paid services. Think about it for awhile, as if it was a food chain - who will get what information first, second, third, etc. - answer: institutional favorite clients might get a phone call first, favorite retail clients next, every client of the firm will get the information first... then paid services second ... do you think people using on-line brokerage discount services and Yahoo are going to get as timely information as the clients of a full service research firm. Remember when you get something for free at Yahoo or Bloomberg, it is great, but not necessarily a timely service as it should be - want to guess at what people pay a month for a full Bloomberg services terminal arrangement - last I heard, it was hundreds of dollars - think they will give you the same info at the same time as people who pay thousands a year.
