Deutsche Telekom to Spend DM400 Mln on Cable Network Next Year

Berlin, Aug. 30 (Bloomberg) -- Deutsche Telekom AG, Europe's biggest phone company, said it will spend more than 400 million deutsche marks ($214 million) upgrading its cable television network next year.

Deutsche Telekom is selling majority stakes in its nine regional cable units to satisfy European Commission competition concerns. The Bonn-based company has received several bids, including ones from Deutsche Bank AG, the world's No.1 bank, and News Corp. the media company run by Rupert Murdoch.

``We are in the process of carefully studying and evaluating the documents we have received before we enter into more detailed negotiations,' said Gerd Tenzer, board member responsible for networks, at a press conference at the IfA consumer electronics fair in Berlin.
