A question for anyone.

Why would large companies (such as MOT, Ericsson and Nokia, Lucent even highlights the company on one of their web pages) sign licensing, joint development and/or marketing agreements with a small company that produces WLL terminals and holds the patent rights for dialtone over wireless which works with standard equipment? The company has low and inconsistent revenues, losses, and to me the visibility of fixed wireless with GSM, CDMA and TDMA for the last mile is not very clear.
The stock has been a dog but large companies appear to be taking an interest in their products. Any insight to possible motives would be appreciated.
