My local TV station said grocer Publix issued a shortage of items notice:-
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. —You may have to alter your grocery list before your next trip to Publix.
According to the food retailer, purchasing limits have been set for certain items statewide due to the ongoing supply chain issues and the uptick in demand for the holidays.
Limits have been set for products in the following categories: Signs have been put up in stores to tell customers they can only purchase two of any individual said item.
Canned cranberry sauce, Jarred gravy, Canned pie filling, Canola and vegetable oil, Cream cheese, Bacon, Rolled breakfast sausage, Paper napkins, Disposable plates, cups and cutlery, Bath tissue, Refrigerated snacks, Sports drinks, Various packaged juices, Canned cat food, Refrigerated pet food, Not every Publix location is issuing a purchasing limit.
Shoppers react: Shoppers at the Publix on Alternate A1A in Palm Beach Gardens say they did not have any trouble actually finding Thanksgiving items, but some people had trouble paying for them due to the rising cost of goods brought on by the national supply chain issues.
"I live on a fixed income, basically Social Security, and you walk into a grocery store, for example, and you get hit up with prices that are about 30% higher than they were,” said Bud Meyer of Lake Park. "Give me a break, here. You’ve got to be kidding me to go ahead and pay that kind of price."
At the Military Trail Publix location in Palm Beach Gardens, shoppers like Pauline Bloom are prioritizing their must-have items.
“We eat really healthy and I am not going to change that," said Bloom. "If somethings are higher, well then you’ve got to pay for that. But we may cut down a couple of things, like meat and stuff."
Staff at the Military Trail location say they have limits on some Thanksgiving items and other supplies, including pet food.
These limits won’t hinder Kenda Peterson’s Thanksgiving meal, since she was ahead of the curve.
“I did plan ahead and I ordered my Thanksgiving dinner from good-old Publix on Nov. 1,” said Peterson, who lives in Palm Beach Gardens. "I think it’s one of the few times in my life I planned ahead and I think I made the right move." |
