You can see that margin rates are all over the board. I have Schwab and their margin rates are equivalent to TD Ameritrade. So, if you are one that uses margin in managing the portfolio, it's best to shop around for a competitive brokerage account.

FWIW, Schwab Bank has a very competitive Home Equity line of credit rate.

They gave me a special rate of 2.99% when I set it up a few years back. I have this set up for emergencies and bridge financing that I use for buying foreclosures. I suspect you could also use it to buy equities, but in the fine print of the loan documents, you are not allowed to but stocks with loan proceeds.
