I think the 8890 is out, like, this week. It's probably mainly aimed at Voicestream/Omnipoint. Somebody told me it won't even be offered in Finland. Gotta have it, just the same. Voicestream, Omnipoint and Powertel are only now really starting to push the roaming angle.

It looks like the major manufacturers are now all coming up with worldphones for GSM-1900 - Ericsson, Motorola, Siemens and Nokia are offering new roaming models. What's interesting here is the white hot growth of the US GSM operators; Powertel just showed more than a 200% year on year jump in subscriber additions. If they can exploit the worldphone angle they should maintain the highest ARPU in Northern America. Screw Peoria - Eastern Seaboard cities is where the profit growth is at.

HSCSD will become operational this summer - Nokia's 6210 is a sub-4 ounce WAP phone with the 40 kbps data transfer speed. At least England among the major markets is serious about this. HSCSD still has a shot at respectable sales as a booster to GPRS - some of the next winter's models will implement both.

Bosch is kind of hot - it's a niche, but if Siemens handles the acquisition right, it can build it into a luxury brand on top of the Siemens range. They have this neat German retro twist on some of the models - like something out of the Weimar Republic sci-fi epics they used to make back in the Twenties.
