I think the exile talk is propaganda to those who think the US can move into any country and bribe its occupants with candy bars and whatnot.
I'd love to see a copy of some of the leaflets the US propaganda team are dropping over Iraq. Anyone got a copy?
Back to point, I think Saddam's vision to future historians is different than Bush's vision. I think Ssddam thinks that no matter what happens he'll win either way; where as Bush will need a certain result to win. And Bush is also carrying the baggage of his dad's earlier role, one of the reasons why I think he's making so many mistakes.
Has Bush made mistakes? You bet! And the most significant demonstration of this is the fact that the whole world was behind us after 9/11. Today, even the best money that money can buy, is having a tough time pulling in coalition allies. This is telling, don't anyone think it's not.
I further believe it's dangerous, like playing with fire, for Bush to keep pulling Iran and Syria into the mix. What if they determine they're next and decide to enter the war as soon as the US troops surround Baghdad?
And there are other serious and potentially climatic what-ifs. Like what if OBL uses all of his influence to orchestrate a revolution in Pakistan to cause a flare-up (a nuclear one maybe) with India or, again, in Afghanastan? And what if OBL combines both his Saudi and Yemen connections to create some street revolt in Saudi Arabia?
Then, of course, Turkey doesn't have it easy since it's gotta deal with: a) Iraq's northern Kurdish population; b) Cyprus; c) Greece; d) Nagarno-Karabakh and, more importantly, e) potential revolt from Turkey's population which is almost totally opposed to a Turkish role. Could Iran influence Turkey's population in any way?
On and on and on and on. I was very bad at school due to its authoritative nature when I was attending. I didn't like my teachers and thought grades were frivilous. So, pretty much, I've educated myself. But one thing I do remember from a Civics class in high school: That the Middle East is the greatest modern age tinderbox, and one capable of producing a third world war.
I hope not! |
