Interesting concept re: Jolt's patent application, but as I see it this isn't something that is of primary importance for end user stations or interconnect to hubs. It is essentially "free-space trenching" to substitute a free-space multiwavelength optical link for what would be a "hard" fiber m/w link if rights-of-way or geography weren't an issue. There will be many cases where these ARE an issue, so there would seem to be a number of applications.

Time will tell what they can do with price, size, and reliability. The cheaper, smaller, and more reliable they can make it, the more places its use could be justified. I can think of a couple not-so-obvious ones that could be important, but would need to find more out about the capabilities.

It would also seem to have applicability as an emergency bypass for fiber cuts, if they could come up with a mobile, "battle-field hardened," quick-to-deploy system around it.

Still has all the same limitations of any free space optical system, but worth watching to see what they can turn this into IMO. Certainly seems like a feasible concept.
