Right. All good points. I was thinking yesterday that it's inconsistant of me to maintain as my primary buy and hold investment tenent to never sell SUNW, and then justify the advice like statements that it's time (for you, and others) to sell MSFT. Will I too as a SUNW investor one day end up in a place where the most prudent action will be to sell SUNW shares, against my own cardinal rule? --- I was reminded of Graham's or Buffet's or Fisher's (somebody's) rule of thumb regarding 'holding' which is to hold a stock until the fundamental reasons you bought it, change. --- I don't 'trade' much at all. I've been lucky where I have traded. I, like (I suppose) most of the folks here invest long term. --- From the outside looking in, it looks as if there has been enough change within the industry to where a (hold or sell) test against the original reasons for purchasing MSFT back in the 90's are warranted. About half of the investors I know personally offline who hold MSFT have dramatically reduced their MSFT holdings or outright vacated their position. The other half have taken no action or pointedly remained. How about you? Did you used to have a long term position? If you had one now would it stand up to your original reasons for buying it (MSFT)? If so, at what point do you stop holding? -JCJ
