Overall, it looks like a superb quarter, especially the book to bill of 1.1. From the press release, it sounds like the CMP and RTP products did particularly well. The statements on PVD, CVD and etch seemed somewhat more muted (e.g., they show "very strong gains" vs. saying "marketshare gains") , and it will be interesting to see if AMAT comments further on these sectors. I was also surprised that they did not say anything about their newly acquired inspection business.

Relative to the other front-end companies, AMAT did somewhat better with respect to bookings. Since AMAT's numbers include April and do not include January, it will be interesting to see the numbers released by SEMI for the April book to bill. January was a relatively weak month for front end suppliers, while February and March were sequentially stronger.
