Well, I must admit that I have a problem with smileys no matter who uses them. It seems to be just a written version of that reflexive "No, not really," that people use in conversation to soften their insults. I figure one should either have the balls to say something and stand behind it, or shouldn't say it at all. But then, what the hell do I know? :-)
