It is said they had some fine libraries there, and it was a major intellectual center far surpassing that of the Christian world. Our History books all talk about the "Flowering of the Civilization of Islam." A closer look, I believe, shows that the things done under Islamic Civilization were done by conquered people, not by the Muslims who conquered. They were a warrior breed. I will always remember that it was a Muslim who ordered the burning of the Library of Alexander. "Everything we need to read is in the Koran!" The Catholic Church did a lot of this too.
