Hauppauge demonstrates WinTV-HD Digital Television HDTV receiver at IDF

09/06/1999
Multimedia Week
(c) 1999 Phillips Business Information, Inc.

IDF attendees last week were treated to a prototype demonstration of the WinTV-HD Digital Television receiver from Hauppauge Digital. Based on TeraLogic's HDTV PC Janus chip, the WinTV- HD board is positioned as the HDTV solution to for a living room PC, providing output directly to a high definition TV or PC monitor.

Included with the WinTV-HD board is Hauppauge's WinTV2000 software, also an interface that is designed to work with other Hauppauge products such as WinTV-USB. Pricing and availability of the WinTV-HD has not been announced.

Maintaining that its PC and board solution is the most economical solution for now to provide an HDTV receiver, the next hurdle for the consumer is forking up the cash to purchase a high- definition PC or TV monitor. Hauppauge has a number of non- HDTV digital TV products in its suite, including Air Modem, a receiver capable of 19.4 Mbit/second data delivery to PCs, and WinTV-D, a DTV receiver coming out this month that is capable of resizing DTV content in a resizable window on a PC screen.
