Coincidentally, Dave and I have discussed that quite a bit today and I happen to be working on the ASP.NET version of search right now. Well, working on the underlying SQL stuff for it first.

The plan for now is to make the last million public and last million private messages searchable, and have separate search catalogs encompassing a year at a time to deal with messages past the most recent million of each type.

Access to searches going back further than a million messages is likely going to be one of those things that'll be in the nominal-charge package grandfathered and old lifetime members can get and that will be included for the recurring-subscription types.

Oh, and lest anyone get the wrong idea, only private messages from or to the searcher will be accessible, just like on iHub.
