hi dave,

it used to happen to me. but i had a talk with the local cable modem manager about my situation. seems that there are two different "connect" times to deal with (at least with my isp).

there is a larger 5 hour window that i got them to extend out to what they say is the maximum 8 hours. it's like an fcc reg or something that limits them to that. a customer is forced to reconnect after that.

the other connect time window is a smaller "inactivity" window during which if there is no web action, the isp will disconnect you. i got them to extend that to the absolute maximum. i forget what that is... maybe it runs concurrent with the 8 hour window.

it was not a total piece of cake to get my local provider to do this. i told them that it was imperative that my connection not be cut off in that i am daytrading stocks and could be in the middle of a fast moving trade and $$ were at stake. they liked that reason.

keep in mind that this whole time frame issue may vary tremendously with whoever you're with. i post all this merely to put you on to the fact that, at least for me, it was a "negotiable area".

btw, you said you had to "reboot to get back on the net". do you mean you have to dial-in again, or do you actually have to restart your pc? just wondering.

good luck!

:)
