Both bushes on fox yesterday proved your point. Bush 41 was no great communicator either. Remember the supermarket scanner that helped cost him the 92 election of the look at the watch in the debate.

41 was a far better communicator than 43. But he was up against Clinton in the election, you just cannot fight Clinton and Carville when they turn on the lies. They cannot be beaten.

If you look at 41's precipitous drop in the polls as the campaign heated up, it is crystal clear that Bush's failure was not a failure to effectively run the country, rather, it was a failure to effectively combat the campaign lies and misrepresentations spewed by Clinton's team.

I've always thought Bush 41 was an excellent president who was robbed of a second term and that the country would have been far better off had he won it. But he came across much as Dole did in '96 -- i.e., as though he just didn't WANT it badly enough. Clinton wanted it and was willing to do anything necessary to get it.

The Clinton campaign of '92 is unmatched in history as the most lying, sorry campaign in our history -- other than perhaps the one between Adams and Jefferson 1800 (who were the closest of friends both before and after). Personally, I think Clinton studied the 1800 election as a model for how to defeat a popular president and determined that you have to be willing to defame the guy to do it.
