Isreal has the upper hand on the Palestinians. My series of posts were to discover how could the ordinary Palestinian & Israeli citizens get back to a normal way of life. Going about normal everyday business without losing their land, houses bulldozed, water polluted, or being blown up. No solution apparent. Arafat has the Iron hand over them, and he wants to destroy Israel. (I have little doubt on that point btw) What's a Palestinian & Israeli citizen to do?

Those are good questions, PB. I'm not surprised that len has not responded -- he never has provided any positive prescription to my knowledge. My belief is that he fights shy of taking his anti-Israel arguments to their logical conclusion.

There are no easy answers. The Mideast is full of totalitarian and terrorist states. Arafat's mini-state is the smallest and weakest; but it's the one that world opinion always makes excuses for. Syria, Iraq and Iran are just as bad and much more powerful. Appeasement of totalitarian and terrorist states is counter-productive; the only viable choices are containment or war.

I think there will be a war this year; the US has lost patience with containing Iraq. Iran too, maybe; did you see Debka's report that Iran/Hizbollah smuggled bin Laden out of Afghanistan? If that's true, they are great fools; all they had to do was mind their own business to see Iraq pounded and their own fortunes improved, but they chose to remind the US of what a terrorist state they are.

Let those brave souls who can continue to talk to the other side, in hopes that when times are better the lines of communication will still be there.
