Dear Jon:

The nematics have response times to applied voltages of 2-4 milliseconds. The electroclinic materials have response times of a 100-300 microseconds (10^-6) at low temperatures as published this year. The nematic does not have full grayscale capability whereas the electroclinic does. You achieve grayscale capability by using something called temporal dithering in nematics. The nematics are presently being used in devices, whereas the electroclinics are the way of the future. If Microvision used electroclinic materials instead of nematics, then this device they delivered to Boeing is substantially much more significant in terms of profitability in the future. Overall it means that you go to a whole new level with the resolution.

Kerry
