MILIPITAS, Calif. (Dow Jones)-- C - Cube Microsystems Inc. (CUBE) integrated its DVxplore MPEG-2 CODEC for D-VHS with chip technology from Victor Co. of Japan (J.VIC) to develop the HM-DR 10000 advanced digital recorder.

Financial terms weren't disclosed.

In a press release Tuesday, C-Cube said the product enables users of video cassette recorders to record up to 24 hours of digital video on a single tape.

The product also allows users to record directly from digital video camcorders.

HM-DR 10000, scheduled for availability by November, will initially target Japan, the company said.

Victor Co. of Japan, which also does business under the JVC brand, invented VHS recording. JVC licenses the D-VHS format, which is all digital.

C-Cube provides digital video silicon and other related systems.
