It was assured that he would be sent to a front where he would live max. a week.

Any German commander had a way to discpline soldiers by saying: "One more time and I send you to the Russian fornt!"
It couldn be a simple sargeant who had no power to send him to his death, but it worked:

No sargeant, it won't happen again! Anything but the Russian front, please!"

Ther's no Russian front in Iraq, is there? So there's need to invent a "Russian front"...
