I agree with you Harry, but newspapers are in for a rough go of it. Most of them know it. They've already lost a big revenue source, classified ads, to sites like Craig's List and other local free ad sites.

You can get news for free, and when you can do that, people aren't going to want to pay for it. I'm not sure how the investigative and reporting jobs will be paid for. It's just not clear at all. Maybe papers will just have to rely on 'stringers' - basically local people that can write, to report news from their locations as a way to earn some extra money. Maybe they will pay more for in-depth investigative reports from independent writers.

The only big newspaper that is doing OK is the Wall Street Journal, because they charge for a web subscription. The only reason they can is people think the financial info in the paper is worth it, and have the money to pay.
