MEDIA ALERT FOR CBS BROADCAST SATELLITE FEED -------------------------------------------- WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 1999 ----------------------------
TORONTO, Sept. 8 /CNW/ -
The News: Today in London, England, De Beers, the world's largest diamond producer, unveiled a diamond collection called the Millennium Jewels - the rarest and most valuable collection in the history of the diamond industry gathered together in celebration of the Millennium. It includes one of the finest diamonds ever discovered, the 203 carat De Beers Millennium Star. This stone is the largest internally and externally flawless, top colour (D colour), pear shaped diamond in the world. The Millennium Jewels also feature eleven exceptionally rare blue diamonds weighing a total of 116 carats, including the 27 carat, heart-shaped stone, The Heart of Eternity. It has taken De Beers several years to amass a collection of this type, unlikely ever to be seen again in our lifetime. In fact, blue diamonds are so rare that only one significant blue stone is mined every year, and they represent less than .1% of all diamonds mined. The collection is unpriced.
